Fedora Core 5 Review
From Superuser Wiki
Fedora Core 5 is a RPM-based Linux distribution, developed by the community-supported Fedora Project, sponsored by Red Hat.
This isn't a comprehensive review, its just a quick look at Fedora Core 5 from my personal perspective. Feel free to build on it.
Firstly the graphical installer was brilliant, it is just as easy for newbies as installing windows but much faster. Partitioning a hard disk can be a bit difficult for beginners to figure out but if you accept the defaults its no problem, it also offers you a number of choices for setting up a dual boot system if you have another operating system installed.
It automatically detected and configured my hardware and network setup so I connected to the internet and ran the updater. Using graphical tools I setup the desktop the way I want and started the package manager to see what extra software was available, there's thousands of packages to chose from and all I had to do was tick a box and click install. Its all very impressive, below I've included screenshots of some of the applications I find useful, most of them integrate with the desktop. Overall I found the desktop to be attractive, intuitive and easy to customize.
You can download it from the Fedore Project download page.
