Install Qemu and run it. You will see a menu like the one in the screenshot. First select C to create and image file.

Follow the screenshot, I chose chris for the name, 500MB for the image size and raw as the format. Don't worry about this for now, we can always change it later.

You should be back at the menu, this time press i for iso/cd. Open the window where you have the ISO image stored and drag it onto the window and press enter. It will ask if you want to boot from this iso, just press y.

You should be back at the menu with your image listed, press 1 and you should see GNU/Linux booting as if you just booted from CD. It will take a minute, just watch and learn till the graphical desktop loads.
